Roland CARRUPT
Biography

I have a PhD in contemporary history and have been teaching for over 30 years. I have been working at the École de Sport du Collège de Brig since 2007 and have also served as Assistant Director of the Boarding School. I live in Martigny and am married to Gabrielle, a nurse at Martigny Hospital. We are the parents of Romain, a mathematics student at EPFL, and Julien, a history and geography student at UNIL.
I am the Vice-president of SCIV_Le syndicat, the main trade union organisation in my canton, which campaigns in particular for the extension of collective labour agreements. As Vice-president of the Governing Board of Oeuvre Saint-Justin, which promotes education in emerging countries and manages student residences in French-speaking Switzerland (including one in Geneva) and Zurich, I am familiar with the management of a Governing Board.
What are your main motivations for becoming a Board member?
To continue the work I began last year on the current Foundation Board, where I feel at home.
What skills/expertise would you bring to the Governing Board?
- Governance
- International pedagogy
- Strong relationships with the local community
In light of the Ecolint Governing Board’s interest in primarily seeking individuals with skills/expertise/experience in financial management, governance, and fundraising, please share concrete examples of how your experience would be relevant, and how this could benefit Ecolint.
Example 1: I have a local and national network that is useful to Ecolint and, in collaboration with the Director General Ad Interim Team and the secretariat, I have initiated a resumption of contacts with the cantons of Geneva and Vaud. Two meetings have been scheduled, one on 16 March (Geneva) and the other on 1 May (Lausanne). These contacts are intended to be continued and expanded.
Example 2: I believe that educators need to be represented on the Governing Board in order to better connect the governing bodies with those working on the ground. I do not have any specific examples to give, as this link is maintained through regular, informal contact with the various members of the Ecolint community. I have been actively working on this since I joined the Board.
Example 3: Promoting Ecolint and its philosophy is important to me at both the local and international levels. I did so during the Centenary conference, and I am continuing my research on the Maurettes and Ecolint, having just signed an article in a forthcoming book on female educators. I actively participated in the process that led to the creation of Rue Marie-Thérèse Maurette 7 and, finally, I have privileged contacts with the Collège Sévigné in Paris, with whom I would like the Ecolint to establish a partnership in a form yet to be determined.
How would you support the mission of the Foundation if you are elected to the Governing Board? Emphasising the skills/expertise that were highlighted above, and other leadership and soft skills you would bring to the Board Governing.
I believe the answer to this question can be found in the previous question.
Finally, could you describe your understanding of relationships within the Governing Board and your approach to the Governing Board culture? How do you imagine the collaboration between the Board members with other stakeholders such as staff, other parents and the local community?
A Governing Board where we respect each other and work together to develop Ecolint with commitment, humility and humanity.
Collaboration with other stakeholders must be open and frank, but each party must remain within its role and place.
