We are seeking to appoint from 31st August 2026 a University & Career Counsellor who will become part of our successful Secondary School. We are looking for someone who will be able to guide our Students from Year 10 to Year 13 on their future university or career path. Our students typically apply to multiple countries, with 40% applying to two or more countries. Information on matriculation data can be found in the school profile here. Students will need support and guidance from a counsellor who is familiar with applications to a variety of destinations including the UK, Switzerland and other mainland European countries, the US, and Canada. The ideal candidate also has familiarity with advising students interested in Swiss post-secondary options (ranging from apprenticeships to university) and students with IB Career-related programme (IBCP) credentials.

Your role and responsibilities:

Strategic Guidance & Student Empowerment

  • Manage the university applications and post-school pathways of all allocated Year 12 and 13 students, providing expert assistance with university applications, apprenticeships, and gap year plans
  • Proactively guide students from Year 10 to 13 through confidential one-to-one meetings, small and large group workshops, and targeted information sessions.
  • Be student-centred in a way that promotes student agency, empowering students to identify and secure the appropriate universities that represent the "right fit" for them.
  • Support Year 11 students and families during the crucial IB subject selection process through dedicated workshops and individual advisory meetings.
  • Provide detailed, individual feedback on multiple drafts of students’ personal statements and application essays to ensure the highest quality of submission.

Workshop Leadership & Community Engagement

  • Design and lead dynamic workshops on university and career-specific topics, such as Common App essay writing, Swiss post-secondary opportunities, and specialised applications (e.g., Medicine in the UK/Europe or studying in the Netherlands).
  • Run careers education and skills training workshops for Years 10 & 11 families, while providing general orientation sessions for Year 7-9 families.
  • Host engaging online and in-person information sessions and "coffee mornings" for parents throughout the academic year.
  • Hold private online or in-person meetings with students and parents whenever required to ensure a personalised experience.
  • Facilitate and host visits from university representatives, coordinating workshops and information sessions to connect our students with global institutions.

Operational Excellence & Data Management

  • Accurately collate and manage university application and placement data within Maia Learning, providing statistics for management and governors upon request.
  • Ensure all necessary supporting documents—including transcripts, predicted grades, and references—are sent and received by universities in a timely manner.
  • Write compelling references and letters of recommendation for allocated students to support their candidacy.
  • Ensure that all public-facing counselling office documentation, including the school profile and counselling site, is kept up-to-date and reflects our high standards.
  • Actively support Year 13 students over the summer holidays during the release of IB results to ensure a smooth transition to higher education.

Collaboration & Professional Expertise

  • Cultivate and maintain dynamic working relationships with the other University & Careers Guidance Counsellor, Senior Leadership, faculty, and staff at large.
  • Stay at the forefront of an ever-changing university landscape through continuous research, departmental meetings, and university visits.
  • Represent Ecolint at international conferences (such as CIS and International ACAC), both online and in-person, which may occasionally occur during school holidays.

  • Strong technical proficiency, specifically with university counselling platforms such as Maia Learning, Cialfo, or Unifrog.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, as well as IBCP and BTEC qualifications.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills allowing you to build trust with students, families, and colleagues alike.
