Ecolint bans mobile phones

As the new protocol came into effect in February 2025, La Tribune de Genève reported from our campuses to witness its rollout firsthand.

This measure aims “to support well-being and long-term learning,” says Director General Conrad Hughes. “With their phones, children are constantly confronted with self-image.”

“This creates harmful psychological pressure. School is about living together; it also offers a break from the outside world. On social media, there are fewer and fewer standards, less fact-checking, and a lot of hateful content. As educators, it’s our responsibility to consider the right balance.”

The Director General is not concerned that this measure might further isolate students who struggle socially: “On the contrary, we believe that having their phones actually deepens their solitude. When students are required to talk to one another, the doors to friendship open more and more.”

“Parents were informed through an Ecolint video. Their responses have been ‘overwhelmingly positive and without hesitation,’” says Conrad Hughes with satisfaction.
