Founded in 1924, the Ecole Internationale de Genève (Ecolint) welcomes 4,500 students aged 3 to 18, representing more than 130 nationalities. Head of the Institute of Learning and Teaching

Reports to: The Director General
Work percentage: full time

Reporting to the Director General, the Head of Institute of Learning and Teaching will supervise the Head of business development of the Institute and the Sustainability and Passport Leads. 
 

Key responsibilities:

The post involves working closely with campus principals, school principals, central administration directors, and with school-based curriculum coordinators and teachers across the Foundation.

The main responsibility of the Head of the Institute of Learning and Teaching is to promote the educational objectives laid down in the school’s Charter, its Vision Statement, its Foundation curriculum guidelines, and its Foundation educational policies, in areas where it is agreed that common approaches and initiatives across the Foundation's seven schools and three campuses are desirable. 
 

This responsibility will entail in particular:

  • supporting campuses and schools in the implementation of the Foundation’s curriculum guidelines;
    monitoring progress in implementing these curriculum guidelines;
  • at the request of the Director-General investigating and reporting on specific aspects of the school’s educational provision;
  • supervising the periodic review, and where necessary revision, of all Foundation-level educational policies and guidelines;
  • promoting and supporting cross-campus and cross-school educational initiatives where these are felt to be desirable;
  • promoting and supporting educational innovation;
  • supporting campus-based curriculum review;
  • collecting and analysing data on student attainment and on the take-up of the school’s different educational programmes;
  • monitoring progress on action plans to take forward the educational recommendations arising from Council of International Schools
  • (CIS)/Middle States Association (MSA) self-studies and visiting team reports;
  • organising cross-Foundation educational events for students and staff;
  • promoting, organising and supporting cross-Foundation professional development initiatives in collaboration with the People and Culture department;
  • encouraging, supporting and disseminating the results of educational research within the Foundation;
  • responding to Foundation-level requests for liaison with, and visits from, other schools;
  • managing a team of 3 experienced leads who are responsible for the development of key educational areas such as sustainability, the Ecolint learning passport, learning institute development, where it is agreed that common approaches and initiatives across the school’s eight schools and three campuses are desirable.
     

Profile:

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • The postholder will have significant experience in a senior position in international schools, over a substantial number of years, in curriculum development, coordination and review, and in the organisation of professional development. 
  • Knowledge and experience of all three IB programmes and of international schools is highly desirable. 
  • Fluent in English or French, and the ability to understand and converse with ease in the other language, are important.
