Nurturing creativity : a 21st century necessity

The project has its root in our understanding that for young people in the 21st century creativity is key to developing their potential. It is no longer enough to teach students "things", success and happiness require not only knowledge but application, practice and reflection. The Arts Centre will provide a place where students can study in close proximity and benefit from the wonderful opportunities for artistic cross-fertilisation that will naturally occur.

The project

At present, on the La Grande Boissière campus, our arts departments are geographically separated across the various buildings in our Primary, Middle and Secondary Schools. And our classrooms, studios and theatre are old, in disrepair and urgently need replacing and/or upgrading. The Arts Centre will allow the arts subjects to be brought together under one roof, and will provide a much-needed common area for students. The building will be situated on the site of the current Black Box theatre, which will be demolished.

The total surface area will include :

  • Extensive student study and recreational spaceArts Centre facade
  • An auditorium - 400 seats
  • A  professional theatre - 180 seats
  • Large exhibition spaces
  • A large drama studio
  • Flexible teaching space
  • Ample music practice studios
  • Recording studio
  • 21st century multimedia infrastructure
  • Conference and meeting space
