On Wednesday 9 November a special event for the young participants of UNOG’s “Peace Essay Contest for Schoolchildren” was held at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). This event commemorates the annual International Day of Peace and the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Dag Hammarskjöld, Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1953 to 1961 and Nobel Peace Prize.
We were delighted to have seen submissions from all three Ecolint campuses and winners also from all three. We are very proud indeed of all our students who participated, especially those who won in their category.
Before presenting medals to the winners of the contest, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Todayev, Director-General of the UNOG, declared: “By attending your schools, with children from all over the world, you know the importance of listening and sharing across cultures. You know the importance of accepting other people’s ideas and of learning the lessons of our past for the benefit of our future (…). Wherever you may go in life, or whatever you may do, always remember why peace is important for us all. Work hard to make your dreams become our shared reality."
