Olympic Truce Campaign: Lord Bates meets LGB students!

It was with great pleasure that our school welcomed Lord Bates, member of the British Parliament, to La Grande Boissière on Wednesday 19 October.  Lord Bates gave a presentation to students about his campaign in support of the Olympic Truce. This Truce (the suspension of armed conflict world-wide for the period of the Olympic Games) is the subject of a resolution that has been adopted before each Olympic Games since 1993 by United Nations member countries, but no concrete action has ever been taken to ensure that the resolution is actually respected.

Lord Bates is therefore undertaking a 4,800 km walk, from Mount Olympus in Greece to London in order to spur the UN member countries to put concrete steps in place.  In Geneva, he met Ban Ki-Moon, as well as doing us the honour of coming to meet our students!
